Past Designs:
Just for fun, here are the past designs for the site. Version 1.0 (generically
titled "The Simpsons Video Game Site") was a really crappy thing that
I made in FrontPage, and I lost the original files. There's no need to
bring back those horrible memories anyway...

The Story:
So, how did all of this mess begin? With one guy and a great television
show called The Simpsons. It was late 1997, probably some time in March.
I was a young and impressionable lad in a club that taught students about the business world (this
was just before budget cuts ruined public schools). We were all lucky enough to go on a field
trip to a little place called Film Roman Animation.
It was a typical
office building, real flat and generally boring. But, inside was a different
story. The entire bottom floor of this building was HQ for the animation
of The Simpsons. There were dozens of cubicles, each one occupied by an
animator doing his animation thing. Later the next year I actually recognized
an episode from the work I saw in those cubicles.
So, the rest of
the tour consisted of several offices of the guys in charge (all covered
in strange posters and NAKED chicks, cool), and we got to watch Tree House
of Horrors VI (the one where Homer goes into 3-D world). Then, we went
to Shakeys Pizza. Overall, it was one of the best days of my youth.
Now forward to
November of 2001. I had done pretty well for myself in all the English
classes, so I decided to write a few reviews for Simpsons video games
over at GameFAQs.
They were not quite up to par with stuff I'd read in Time magazine, so I only did two of them. But, I didn't stop with reviews.
In January of 2002 I began work on my first video game guide for Bartman Meets
Radioactive Man. The first version wasn't all that good, but it improved
with subsequent updates.
Now, finally, about
this site. Around the same period in 2002 I discovered a place called Noiseland
Arcade, and I was inspired to create my own Simpsons video
game site just like it. I called it "The Simpsons Video Game Site". With a great title
like that, I thought it would be the greatest website in the world. It was not. The folks at The
Simpsons 100 helped a brother out and it slightly improved as I learned to create compelling content before spending time on the design.
Eventually I tired
of using free host after free host for the site, and Ben from Simpson
Crazy offered to host this little hobby of mine. It was then that I got my first taste of a site
free from horrible banners and annoying pop-ups. Shortly after the
move to Simpson Crazy, I received a message from Simon Lau of New Springfield
that his site had officially closed. It was a sad day for me, as I had always admired his website.
But, onward and upward as they say, and I wished Simon luck in his future endeavors.
Fast forward to April 2005. After three years of moving and changes I finally bit the bullet and purchased
a domain for this site and the one I use to this day: www.noiseland.net, in memory of Simon Lau's Noiseland
Arcade. It was a tough decision, but I figured it was time to stop moochin'
and pay to have the site online. As I'm sure I did everywhere, I have
to thank Ben from Simpson
Crazy for hosting the site for a year.
With a solid host and no new real video games for quite some time,
it's been all about gathering a massive archive of information and images. The design continues to
change every year or so as I tire of the old one, and with a new Simpsons game on the horizon (The Simpsons
Next-Gen), things are looking to pick up significantly. Traffic grows monthly, and I look forward
to another five years of sparse updates but lots of info. :)
